The closing entries from my mom's journal:
October 26, 2011: Hope's cold is gone, if it was a cold. She was peaceful most of the day today.
October 27, 2011: Another rough night for Hope last night. She was breathing with difficulty most of the night. When Hannah and I arrived in the morning she was still laboring to breathe. At times her tongue would pull and her jaw would drop down to pull in air. Caeli commented that she looks more blue today. They are keeping eye drops in her eyes to keep them hydrated.
She cried out a few very quiet cries and they gave her some oxycodone. Tyler decided to work at home, but the internet was not working, so we went to John and Celeste's for the day. Hope slept peacefully most of the time, but threw her head back a few times.
Tyler went to help the Young Men (church group) plan an activity tonight, so we went back to their house and I put photos of Hope in frames and photo albums as Caeli held Hope. Hope started throwing her head back a lot and acting like she was in pain, so Caeli gave her some more oxycodone. She seemed calmer when Hannah came to get me tonight.
In the morning, while Caeli and Tyler were getting things ready to go to John and Celeste's, I was able to hold Hope. She was very peaceful. I love her long fingers, so I took some pictures of them with Caeli's cell phone. I wish they were better quality, but here are a couple:
